Lisa Wilkinson's interview with Kristen Wiig gets shut down

A publicist for Kristen Wiig abruptly – and hilariously – shut down a promotional interview between the Wonder Woman 1984 star and The Project host Lisa Wilkinson.

In the caught-on-camera moment, the Australian TV host was seen asking if Wiig could personally relate to her character in the film, archaeologist Barbara Ann Minerva (aka Cheetah), who starts out as being particularly shy and awkward before her eventual transformation to one of Wonder Woman’s most well-known adversaries.

“We all feel like we’ve got Barbara inside us,” said Wilkinson. “We are all dorks and struggling to make our way in the world. Did you feel that as well?”

“Yes,” Wiig responded just as a publicist unmuted herself and said, "That’s all the time we have Lisa, thank you.”

“Well, you got the ‘yes’ in there,” laughed Wiig.

“Yes, I did. Thank you so much,” Wilkinson said, laughing.

Wiig has been on a major publicity tour leading up to the Christmas Day release of Wonder Woman 1984, hosting SNL’s annual Christmas episode earlier in December.

She also talked to Jimmy Fallon earlier this month about the immense amount of secrecy around auditioning and starring in the superhero sequel.

“I get paranoid that the Warner Bros police are going to arrest me,” she joked.

Wiig was, however, able to describe how her character begins the movie as Diana Prince’s (Wonder Woman’s alter-ego) colleague at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC.

“She starts off very as Diana’s friend, she’s very shy and awkward,” she told Fallon on The Tonight Show.

Wonder Woman 1984 arrives in theaters and HBO Max on 25 December, Christmas Day.
