If there are two things Leonardo DiCaprio loves, they are the environment and playing powerful historical figures.

A new drama will see him indulge both, as he plays naturalist and 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt Jr.

Martin Scorsese will direct Roosevelt, according to Deadline, the pair's seventh feature film collaboration if we include the upcoming The Devil in the White City.

Scott Bloom will pen the script, with DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson producing under their Appian Way banner alongside Scorsese, Emma Koskoff and Chuck Pacheco. The film is set for Paramount due to its first look deal with Appian.

Roosevelt was known for his 'exuberant personality' and "cowboy" persona, and his eventful life saw him engaged in military combat, editing magazines and later becoming the youngest president at 42 following the assassination of President William McKinley in 1901.

Of particular interest to DiCaprio will be his conservation work, Roosevelt having signed into law the creation of five National Parks and created countless nature preserves.

Though Roosevelt is DiCaprio's first presidential role, he has played titans of industry and government before, notably first director of the FBI J. Edgar Hoover in J. Edgar and aviation pioneer Howard Hughes in Scorsese's The Aviator.
