Liam Neeson slams Donald Trump at TIFF: 'The President is not above the law'

The actor plays Watergate scandal anonymous source Mark Felt in new biographical film

Liam Neeson has drawn parallels to the Watergate scandal and the presidency of Donald Trump while promoting his new film at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

The actor is in town for Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House, a new biographical thriller from Peter Landesman which recounts the story of FBI agent Felt who became the anonymous source that aided the Watergate investigation in 1978.

When asked about the current political climate in the US, Neeson told The Hollywood Reporter: “Democracy works and no man - and certainly not the President - is above the law. He has to be accountable.

“I think we're living in very scary times and we all have to be responsible,” he continued, “...and the great thing that has happened and is continuing to happen - as was happening at the time of Watergate - people are getting out and protesting. That hasn't happened in America for many many years.”

Northern Ireland-hailing actor Neeson stars in the film alongside an ensemble cast including Diane Lane, as Felt's wife Audrey, Tony Goldwyn, Maika Monroe, Michael C. Hall and Josh Lucas.

A UK release date for the film is yet to be announced but it'll be release din the US on 29 September.
