Lionsgate wants to make more Hunger Games and Twilight movies

'There are a lot more stories to be told'

Lionsgate is having trouble letting go.

As a studio, it hasn't exactly been as major a contender in the blockbuster stakes as Warner Bros. or Disney, but it did manage to crank out two extremely successful franchises in the form of The Hunger Games and Twilight. And now they're clinging onto those franchises until the blood drains out of their knuckles.

"There are a lot more stories to be told, and we’re ready to tell them when our creators are ready to tell those stories," CEO Jon Feltheimer stated during a quarterly earnings call with analysts, Variety reports.

Of course, it's all talk until they actually get the sign off from either Twilight author Stephenie Meyer and Hunger Games' Suzanne Collins, but Lionsgate's been pretty vocal about their desires to keep the latter going for a while.

Back in 2015, the studio's Vice Chairman Michael Burns stated that the Hunger Games "will live on and on" in a series of prequels, despite the fact the last instalment under-performed at the box office.

Jennifer Lawrence then quickly ruled herself out, and it's incredibly unlikely Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson could ever be coaxed back to Twilight, with both now enjoying prestigious careers in independent film.

That won't stop Lionsgate dreaming of big piles of money, however.
