Tom Holland debunks popular Spider-Man 3 rumour – but fans are not convinced
Holland admitted that he might be kept in the dark surrounding this surprise
Tom Holland has firmly denied the rumours that Spider-Man 3 will feature past incarnations of the titular superhero.
The hugely anticipated sequel has been the subject of rumours and speculations for months as fans anticipate the Marvel movie will include the Multiverse, which would allow timelines to intersect with one another.
One rumour that has gained particular traction suggests that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will reprise their past roles as Peter Parker to star alongside Holland’s current incarnation of the same character.
Holland has now told Esquire that Garfield and Maguire will not appear in the film.
“No, no, they will not be appearing in this film,” said the actor. “Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me.”
Maguire portrayed the superhero in the original trilogy that spanned 2002 to 2007, before Garfield took over the role for The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014).
The 24-year-old added that the sequel will be “a continuation of Spider-Man movies that we’ve been making”.
Fans are not convinced, however, with many believing that Holland is lying to conceal the surprise. One user wrote on Twitter, in reference to his denial: “@TomHolland you stop lying right now Mister.”

Another added: “He’s just trying not to give it away”, while someone else wrote: “Stop lying about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield being in Spiderman 3 and release a trailer ASAP Cheers.”
The actor admitted that Marvel titles do make an effort to misdirect their cast members in order to prevent them accidentally divulging spoilers to press or fans.
“They do it all the time,” he said. “In [Avengers: Endgame], Robert Downey Jr’s funeral scene, for the longest time I was under the impression that it was a wedding. I’m 100 percent sure that they’re still tricking me.”
The next instalment in the Spider-Man franchise is slated for release on 17 December 2021.
