Seann William Scott, most memorable for his offensive Stifler in American Pie, bulks out and plays it straight for this patchy sports comedy.
He plays Doug, a dim but loyal hardnut who is enrolled into a local ice hockey squad simply for his fighting skills. He is soon picked up by a bigger team to protect their messed-up star player. Goon appears confused about whether it's supposed to be heartwarming and sincere or crude and gross. Scott's good, though.
