Film review: Mister John (15)
Joe Lawlor, Christine Molloy, 95mins. Starring: Aidan Gillen
Writer-directors Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor invest this elliptical story of bereavement and betrayal with a fugue-like air of unease.
Aidan Gillen plays Irishman Gerry, fleeing a troubled marriage and arriving in Singapore to deal with the fallout from his brother John's death by drowning.
After his luggage is lost, John's widow (Zoe Tay) takes him in and puts at his disposal her late husband's wardrobe. With snake venom in his blood and a dead man's clothes on his back, no wonder Gerry isn't "fully himself".
We wait for something to happen – and by the end we're still waiting.
