Letter: What you know
Sir: I was surprised to find myself featured in Philip Hensher's column "And here's your starter for ten" (21 May) as the "poor sap who thought Portugal was one of the Balearic Islands", but my school friends found it richly comic, having spotted, as Philip Hensher may not have, my laughter on recognising the howler I had just made.
Several university admissions tutors have been willing to make me offers on the basis of interviews; they were keener to know if I could develop ideas than to answer factual questions under tense conditions.
I thank Philip Hensher for my national fame and my new nick-name, the Poor Sap.
