The Independent's continuing association with the Institute of Contemporary Arts, and Toshiba, offering special privileges to metro readers at the ICA and other contemporary art venues

A car thief with a career in karaoke, a boxer struggling to make it as an actor, a provocative dancer-turned-singer, and her would-be media- mogul agent, are the four larger than life Sheffield characters in search of fame and fortune in Tales From a Hard City. This gripping and hilarious new low-budget film has all the entertainment value of a fiction feature but turns out, astonishingly, to be fact. Tales From a Hard City is showing in the ICA Cinematheque until 16 April (excluding Mondays/Tuesdays) at 8.30pm. The ICA has 10 pairs of free tickets for metro readers on Saturday and Sunday. Ask at the box-office from 6pm on the evening of your choice

The ICA is offering metro readers a unique trial membership. For just £5 enjoy three months of benefits, including free entry, plus guest, to exhibitions, late-night bar, and special music events. On Tuesday 11 April, members are invited to Goodbar, an evening of chunky, funky sounds with DJs in the ICA Bar from 9pm-1am. Plus, until 15 April, all new members are entered in a draw to win a print by radical US artist Sue Williams. To join, contact the ICA box-office in person, by post or telephone 0171- 930 3647

In addition this week, Toshiba is offering a 15-inch portable TV, the 1510TB, featuring: the latest flatter square tube technology for a sharper picture; BBC and ITV Text services and, for late night viewing, an automatic device that switches to stand-by when the station stops broadcasting.

Just answer the following question (about a visual artist) and send your response to the address below (one entry per person only, please).

Live Cinema (see p.2) at Sadler's Wells revisits the golden age of cinema with two classic films accompanied by live music. On Tuesday at 7.30pm, John Ford's epic western The Iron Horse is showing together with John Lanchbery's vigorous score. On Wednesday and Thursday, the London premiere run of Harold Lloyd's The Kid Brother is accompanied by Carl Davis's score. Top price tickets (£16) are available to metro readers for £8, from Sadler's Wells (0171-713 6000)

Spend your Friday evenings at the ICA, courtesy of metro. Take in the exhibitions Superstition, paintings by Luc Tuymans, and Skin of the Teeth, an installation from young British artist Abigail Lane (both open until 9pm), or meet and eat with friends in the late night bar and caf (open until 1am). Show your copy of metro at the box-office for free entry after 6pm every Friday until I5 April
