Aaliyah’s estate says her music is coming to streaming services

Fans marked 19 years since the artist's death on 25 August

The estate of the late singer Aaliyah has issued a statement announcing it is in discussions to try and bring her music catalogue to streaming sites.

Fans around the world marked the 19th anniversary of the R&B star’s death, aged 22, in a plane crash on 25 August 2001.

Her music has been largely absent from all streaming services for the past decade.

In a statement posted to social media, her estate said: “To our loyal fans: We are excited to announce that communication has commenced between the estate and various record labels about the status of Aaliyah’s music catalogue, as well as its availability on streaming platforms in the near future.

“Thank you for your continued love and support. More updates to come.”

Aaliyah, born Aaliyah Dana Haughton, signed with Jive Records when she was 12 years old, and released her debut album, Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number, two years later.

The album went double platinum in the US upon release, and Aaliyah recorded a further two albums, including her final, self-titled LP in July 2001.

She was also an actor, and starred in the 2000 thriller Romeo Must Die, the soundtrack to which featured her most successful single, “Try Again”.
