Singer Christina Grimmie - a former contestant on the US version of talent series The Voice - was tragically shot dead at a music gig on Friday (10 June).

Having performed a show in Orlando venue The Plaza Live, the 22-year-old was signing autographs when an assailant open fired on her. She later died from her wounds leading to an outpouring of tributes from across the world.

Grimmie appeared on The Voice's sixth season in 2014 having generated a fan base of millions from performances she had uploaded to her YouTube channel from the age of 15.

Initially impressing the judges with her performance of Miley Cyrus track "Wrecking Ball," Grimmie went on to make it through to the final stages of the contest, working under the tutelage of Maroon 5's Adam Levine. She finished in third place.

Her time on the show saw her perform alongside Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne who offered to sign her up to his record label, Young Money Entertainment. As well as an offer from her coach Levine, Grimme went on to sign with Island Records who manage musicians including Ariana Grande and Annie Lennox.

She continued to upload cover versions of renowned songs to her YouTube channel beyond her Voice success at the request of her fans.

Preceding her death, Grimmie had been performing with punk rock band Before You Exit. She was working on a second record - the singer's first signed to a label.
