Joe Biden's inaugural address dubbed over with Alex Turner's iconic Brit Awards speech

Joe Biden’s inauguration address has been given an unlikely mash-up with a speech by Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner.

At the 2014 Brit Awards, Turner gave a memorable speech while accepting the award for best album (for AM), in which he declared: “That rock’n’roll, it just won’t go away.”

Biden was sworn in as US president in a ceremony that took place yesterday (20 January), replacing the outgoing Donald Trump.

Twitter user Tristan Cross posted a video in which footage from Biden’s speech (which is transcribed in full here) plays with audio from the Brit Awards, often closely matched to the politician’s lip movements.

Next to the video was the caption: “Really wasn't expecting to be moved by the inauguration, but this is about as affecting a political speech as I can ever remember.”

In the clip, the overdubbed Biden can be heard saying: “That rock’n’roll, eh? It might hibernate from time to time, and sink back into the swamp. I think the cyclical nature of the universe in which it exists demands it adheres to some of its rules.

“But it’s always waiting there, just around the corner. Ready to make its way back through the sludge and smash through the glass ceiling, looking better than ever.”

Among the celebrities to feature at Biden’s inaugural event were Lady Gaga, Tom Hanks and Bruce Springsteen.
