2020 Latin Grammy Awards: Roma star Yalitza Aparicio to co-host ceremony

Aparicio will join actor Ana Brenda Contreras and singer Carlos Rivera

Roma star Yalitza Aparicio will co-host the 2020 Latin Grammy Awards.

Aparicio will share hosting duties with singer Carlos Rivera and actor Ana Brenda during the ceremony, which will air on 19 November on Univision at 8pm ET/PT.

The actor rose to global fame after making her acting debut in Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma in 2018. She earned a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress, alongside Olivia Colman, Glenn Close, Lady Gaga, and Melissa McCarthy.

“It’s my first time being a host and I’m really excited to be part of such an important award show,” Aparicio told Entertainment Weekly.

“We’re living in unique times which requires a lot of extra care. The experience will certainly be different than previous years, but none of this will affect the incredible surprises we have planned for viewers. It’s going to be so much fun!”

The awards show will take place in Miami and feature performances from several cities. This year’s theme is “Music Makes Us Human”, which the Latin Recording Academy says is meant to “bring hope and community to audiences, while at the same time carving space to celebrate Latin music”.

Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Camilo, Kany García, Jesse & Joy, Natalia Lafourcade, Ricky Martin, Fito Paez, and Carlos Vives are all in the running for the Album of the Year trophy.

Anuel AA, Rauw Alejandro, Mike Bahía, Cazzu, Conociendo Rusia, Soy Emilia, Kurt, Nicki Nicole, Nathy Peluso, Pitizion, and WOS are up for Best New Artist.
