Pink's reaction to Christina Aguilera's AMA Whitney tribute

Christina Aguilera and Pink’s infamous feud dates back to the early noughties - the zenith being when the former allegedly tried to punch the latter in a nightclub.

But the spat has found itself dominating headlines after all this time after Aguilera, who rose to fame for hit single “Genie in a Bottle”, paid tribute to late musical icon Whitney Houston at the American Music Awards on Sunday.

Viewers back home argued Pink, who gained notoriety for hit single “Get the Party Started”, did not look all too pleased or impressed when the cameras zoomed in.

In no time at all, photos of Pink began circulating across the internet. Naturally, viewers relished in speculating about the singer’s reaction, with most assuming her expression was a grimace rather than mere concentration and interest.

They presumed she looked confounded and distinctly unconvinced as she crumpled her brow and the pair had yet to get over the row they were embroiled in related to the single “Lady Marmalade” 15 years ago.

But Pink has rebuffed suggestions she was cringing at Aguilera and instead explained it made her profoundly upset to see that a rupture had been fabricated between them.

“Waking up to see a newly created rift between myself and another incredible woman, Christina, who took on an incredible feat, who I support fully, makes me so sad,” the singer said on Tuesday.

“You all perpetuate keeping women apart because you're afraid of the power we have when we get together.”

She added: “I choose to remember last night as being a celebration of women, of Diana, of Whitney, of love and life and joy and all things good. Thank you to everyone that had the courage to take that stage - whether it be right side up or sideways. All love.”

Pink also heaped praise on Aguilera directly after her performance, saying she was awestruck by the musician’s talent.

“Christina f***ing killed it tonight for one of our favourite singers ever. This is about Whitney, and I am in awe of Christina's talent. Show the clip where I'm in tears, you negative Nancys,” she said.

She also shared a tweet from Mark Sunderstrom, the senior digital producer at Fuse TV, which said: “Pink and Christina Aguilera deaded their beef last year and have been FRIENDS since, respecting each other's amazing talent as grown women. stop creating something out of nothing.”

But this did not stop onlookers delighting in picking apart her reaction and misconstruing it as a negative one at the time.

Aguilera sang a medley of songs in tribute to Houston to commemorate the 25th anniversary of The Bodyguard and its epic soundtrack.

Pink actually brought up her old feud with Aguilera at the end of last month. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, she claimed the singer once tried to punch her in a nightclub.

“We were super young and super new at the whole thing, and I think I’m an alpha, and she’s an alpha,” she recalled.

"I’m used to taking my altercations physical and she’s used to having them verbal. We’re just very different, we’re very different. And we were very young and new. ‘You have to learn, women have to learn how to support each other. It’s not taught to each other in the playground.”

When probed about whether Pink had ever attempted to turn their arguments physical, she said: “Actually, she swung at me in a club. Hilarious! I was like, 'What’s happening right now? What’s happening?'"

But she insisted the pair had fully made amends now, explaining they “hugged it out” and she felt good about their reconciliation.

She said: "She’s so talented and deep down I’ve had bad days, too. She’s a really sweet person. We made up on The Voice. I mean, it was funny, I laughed. I hadn’t seen her in years and years and years.”

A representative for Aguilera did not respond to a request to comment on Pink's Andy Cohen appearance.
