The Wanted have beaten One Direction in the latest battle of the boybands.

The "I Found You" singers have been named best group in the Virgin Media Awards 2013, which was voted for by over one million members of the public.

The Wanted - Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker, Jay McGuiness and Nathan Sykes - beat former X Factor contestants One Direction to the title by just 0.08 per cent.

In another shock result, magician Dynamo won TV show of the year, for his show Magician Impossible, with 36 per cent of the vote, ahead of cult hits Sherlock and Doctor Who. Sherlock was third favourite with 14 per cent of voters and Doctor Who had just 8.6 per cent of the vote.

But Sherlock still managed to claim the award for TV moment of the year for its cliffhanger at the end of series two, which saw Sherlock apparently leap to his death, and then disappear.

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch also won best TV actor, narrowly beating Doctor Who star Matt Smith.

Meanwhile, teen heartthrob Justin Bieber retained his crown as best solo artist with a whopping 56 per cent of the votes.

And Twilight stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were voted hottest actress and hottest actor, respectively.

The main winners were:

Best Group: The Wanted

Best Solo Artist: Justin Bieber

Best Music Video: Katy Perry, Wide Awake

Best Album: Justin Bieber, Believe

Best TV Channel: BBC One
