“Weird Al” Yankovic has released a comic musical parody of the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

The video by Yankovic – known for his spoof songs including “White and Nerdy” – and the Gregory Brothers, has been released to accompany the artist’s new track “We’re All Doomed”.

The visual sees Yankovic playing the role of the debate’s moderator, Chris Wallace. “2020’s a raging hellscape,” he sings, before asking the candidates: “Any ideas on how to stop a worldwide plague?”

Clips of Trump and Biden from Tuesday’s debate (29 September) have been edited and their words have been auto-tuned into sung responses.

The satirical singer goes on to reference topical issues including the economy, the Supreme Court and climate change, while edited clips of Trump and Biden recall some of the debate’s most ridiculed moments.

Fox News’ Wallace was widely criticised after struggling to moderate the event and allowing constant interruptions from the president.

Yankovic announced the release of the parody video to his 5.5 million followers on Twitter yesterday, with many fans sharing their excitement for the new track on social media.

Monty Python’s Eric Idle reposted the video, accompanied by a caption reading: "Wow. That’s genius. How the x did you do that so fast. The first laugh I’ve had in 24 hours.

“It’s hysterical, the song is terrific and the performance fantastic.”
