Remix albums are always hit-and-miss affairs, yoking together as they do a diversity of approaches.

Here, it's instructive to compare different remixers' takes on the same source material – to note how the strings and woodwind of SixToes' version of "When My Baby Comes" are so much more evocative than Cat's Eyes' leaden interpretation; or how A Place to Bury Strangers' juddering, pell-mell electro-rock "Worm Tamer" differs from the atmospheric momentum of UNKLE's "Hyper Worm Tamer". Sometimes, the changes simply frustrate, as when Josh Homme rations out the hellhound gallop of "Mickey Bloody Mouse" too sparingly. But the additions can bring extra layers of exhilaration – most notably on "Super Heathen Child", where the menacing prowl of the original is razored by Robert Fripp's piercing guitar slashes.
