Alison Brie has revealed she suffered a very awkward wardrobe malfunction while shooting Mad Men.

The star, who played Trudy Campbell in the hit series about the advertising industry in Sixties New York, detailed the moment on Justin Long's Life Is Short podcast.

Admitting she had a “peeing incident” while filming the show, Brie explained that she was given underwear that looked like “biker shorts that go all the way up to your ribs” with a “small hole” in them for going to the toilet.

“I didn't know for the first season that you weren't supposed to wear underwear under them because they are underwear,” Brie said. “But I was just trying to respect the wardrobe and that feels gross.”

Brie ran into trouble when she rushed to the bathroom just before a scene.

“I tried to pull the hole open, but I didn't pull my underwear to the side so I'm peeing and not hearing it hit the bowl and then I just feel warmth,” she said. “It was full pee.”

Brie said she emptied about “half” her bladder before realising what was happening. Worried she was holding up the cast and crew, Brie hastily returned to set.

“I just dabbed it with a bunch of toilet paper,” she said. “Because they're waiting on me! I'm not allowed to be that person here... I'm a recurring guest star, I don't want to lose my job.”

Brie did “several takes” before the costume designer Janie Bryant sensed that something was wrong and helped the actor out, reassuring her that this “wouldn’t be the first time!”

Brie can next be seen in the revenge comedy Promising Young Woman, alongside Carey Mulligan, which is set for release next month.
