Alison Hammond claims she was asked to eat hot dogs by Celebs Go Dating bosses in weight jibe

This Morning presenter said she didn’t initially understand why the plate of hot dogs was on the set

Alison Hammond has claimed she was asked to playfully eat from a plate of hot dogs while filming Channel 4’s Celebs Go Dating.

The This Morning presenter was a participant on the show, which involves celebrities being set up by a dating service.

Speaking on pop star Fleur East’s podcast, The Reality of Reality TV, Hammond claimed that the hot dogs were meant as a jibe at her weight.

“When I did Celebs Go Dating, do you know when they do the pre-titles and you do all the little bits to camera?” Hammond began. “I noticed a producer had some hot dogs on the side and I was doing my little blowing the kisses to camera.

“And I was wondering about it and then he brought a hot dog over and went ‘Oh, can you just eat a hot dog?’ So then straight away I said, ‘What do I need to eat a hot dog for?’ when I realised, ‘Oh, it’s the fat person eating’.”

Hammond also said that I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! has been the reality show that has treated her the best. Hammond was a contestant on the show’s tenth series in 2010.

“Yes, you are covered from all angles but I feel that because they’re celebrities, they’re a lot more gentle to the celebrities and ultimately it’s a family show, they don’t want anything nasty and it will all be edited down,” she explained. “I think deep down they want to show the best of you.”

Hammond made her TV debut on the second series of Big Brother, before transitioning to TV presenting.

In June, she broke down in tears while discussing the death of George Floyd during an appearance on This Morning.
