American Gods season 2: Showrunners loses showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green depart project

Following clashes with the production company over budget and creative direction

Bryan Fuller and Michael Green have both had an enormously busy 2017.

Both served as showrunners on American Gods, with Fuller also acting as an executive producer on Star Trek: Discovery and Green writing the screenplays for Logan, Blade Runner 2049, and Murder on the Orient Express.

However, both their schedules should be slightly less busy next year as they are stepping away from American Gods. According to Variety, the pair are leaving the project following clashes with production company FremantleMedia over budget and creative direction.

Fuller and Green are said to have been pushing for increased spending, despite the show already costing $10 million per-episode.

After the news broke, rumours spread that the novel's author, Neil Gaiman, would act as their replacement, but has since denied as much on Twitter. Who American Gods will continue with remains uncertain.

Meanwhile, Green will next work on the Netflix series Raising Dion, while Fuller — who previously helmed Hannibal, Dead Like Me, and Pushing Daisies — has the Apple project Amazing Stories on the go.

Gaiman also has another show coming out, Good Omens, with David Tennant and Michael Sheen, on which the author will serve as showrunner.
