American Horror Story has been renewed for three more seasons, FX has announced.

The network has confirmed that Ryan Murphy’s anthology series will continue at least through to season 13.

The show’s most recent season was its ninth. The instalment, titled AHS:1984, paid homage to the 1980s slasher genre and followed characters at a sleepaway camp.

AHS: 1984 came to an expectedly bloody conclusion in November last year.

Original members of the cast, including Evan Peters, Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson, were notably missing from the latest series.

Since the network’s announcement, AHS favourite Paulson has confirmed that she will be returning for season 10.

The actor delighted AHS fans with the news when speaking at the winter Television Critics Association.

The extension of AHS continues a long-standing relationship between Murphy and FX, despite the acclaimed writer’s recent deal with Netflix.

Most recently Murphy worked with Netflix to produce The Politician, starring Ben Platt, and is currently in post-production on Ratched, a spin-off of Ken Kasey’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest that features Sarah Paulson as its lead.
