The BBC's biggest salaries revealed

The BBC has revealed the names of its highest paid actors - with Casualty veteran Derek Thompson topping the list.

Thompson, who has starred as Charlie Fairhead in the medical drama since it started in the mid-1980’s, ranks above stars such as Eastenders’ Danny Dyer and Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi.

Figures from the corporation's annual report reveal Thompson earns between £350,000-£399,999.

Amanda Healing, a fellow Casualty actor who also appears on Holby City, is directly behind Thompson and earns between £250,000 and £299,999. She is the only person in this category.

Dyer, who has played pub landlord of Mick Carter in Eastenders for almost 15 years, is in the same salary bracket as Capaldi of £200,000-£249,999.

Eastenders veteran Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale and is the longest serving character on the soap, is in the same category as Dyer and Capaldi.

The nine other Beeb actors beneath them were:

  • Only Fools And Horses star Sir David Jason, £200,000-£249,999
  • Silent Witness actor Emilia Fox, £200,000-£249,999
  • Holby City actor Rosie Marcel, £200,000-£249,999.
  • EastEnders stars Lacey Turner, Scott Maslen, Gillian Taylforth and Tameka Empson, Laurie Brett, Letitia Dean, £150,000-£199,999 bracket.

June Brown, 90, famed for playing Dot Cotton in the soap, is not listed in the pay rankings.

The BBC has revealed the pay of its biggest stars that earn £150,000 or more for the first time in its corporation’s annual report, sparking fury over the gender pay gap.

Director General Tony Hall admitted the news outlet had a problem with around two-thirds of the highest earners being male. Radio presenter Chris Evans topped the list with £2.2m-2.25m, with Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker following closely behind with £1.75m-1.79m.
