The Case Against Adnan Syed - trailer

HBO has released a new look at its upcoming four-part documentary The Case Against Adnan Syed.

Its set to explore the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee and the conviction of her ex-boyfriend, Syed, for the crime. The case was made famous on the hit podcast Serial in 2014 – which many have credited with sparking the recent popular interest in true crime.

The documentary is not the first to offer further exploration of Syed’s case. Rabia Chaudry, a lawyer and childhood friend of Syed, created her own podcast, Undisclosed, and makes an appearance in the new documentary.

However, The Case Against Adnan Syed will feature exclusive access to Syed, his defence team, and his family; alongside friends and teachers of both Lee and Syed, and members of local law enforcement.

HBO has promised that the documentary will provide new information and “groundbreaking revelations” that challenge the state’s case.

The series is directed by Amy Berg, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her 2006 documentary Deliver Us From Evil, about sex abuse in the Roman Catholic Church. She also directed West of Memphis, about the West Memphis Three.

In the UK, the documentary will be available to watch in its entirety on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW TV from 1 April.
