House of Cards star Joel Kinnaman addresses Kevin Spacey sexual misconduct allegations: 'It wasn't a shock'

Joel Kinnaman has described the allegations of sexual misconduct against Kevin Spacey as “unsurprising.”

The Swedish-American actor, who co-starred alongside Spacey in Netflix series House of Cards - was appearing on Scandinavian talk show Skavlan when he made the admission.

Asked by Norwegian host Fredrik Skavlan to comment on the allegations which saw the streaming service axe Spacey from the political drama, Kinnaman stated simply: "It wasn't a big shock."

He elaborated, explaining how he had heard multiple stories of Spacey's alleged behaviour in the past.

“I have five or six friends I know who have told stories about Kevin about when they were young and had just arrived in Hollywood," Kinnaman said, adding: "He tried to... he gave me a very warm welcome in Baltimore.

“But later, when you learnt that he had supposedly behaved this way with 14-year-olds then it's like thank you and goodbye.”

Spacey has faced numerous allegations of sexual misconduct following the initial accusation by Star Trek: Discovery star Anthony Rapp.

The actor was later criticised for seeming to imply causality with his gay sexuality and behaving inappropriately with a minor in his statement of apology. He was later fired by his reps and dropped from Netflix series House of Cards and new Ridley Scott film All the Money in the World; he was replaced by Christopher Plummer.

Kinnaman, who starred in the show's fourth and fifth seasons as Will Conway - the political rival of Spacey's character Frank Underwood - praised the #metoo revolution happening in Hollywood in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, going to describe an experience him and an ex-girlfriend once had with the disgraced producer.

“My ex was going to a meeting with [him] and we had met him the night before - he was very friendly with me - and the two of them had arranged a meeting. She messaged me a little later and said, 'He's relocated our meeting to a hotel room.' And I said, 'Ok let's go home.”
