John Cusack worries Disney will 'f**k up' new adaptation of High Fidelity

The new TV series will be family appropriate and female-led

John Cusack has responded coarsely to reports that Disney are adapting the romantic comedy High Fidelity as a family appropriate, female-led TV adaptation.

The actor played central protagonist in the Stephen Frears-directed movie adaptation of Nick Horby’s book.

The screenplay for the romantic comedy – which won rave reviews for its likeable, cynical story – was co-written by Scott Rosenberg, whose name has been attached to the upcoming Disney project.

“Up beat? Sounds like they may miss the magic,” Cusack wrote first, later adding: “They want to brand their thing with our thing – they will f**k it up.”

In a third Tweet, the actor added: “The woman part seems good but the rest, not so much – but it’s Nick [Horby]’s book, hope at least he’s involved. If he’s not, it will suck.”

Ugly Betty writers Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka have both been attached to the TV series, which will debut on Disney’s yet-to-be-revealed streaming service.

Other shows in the pipeline for the service include a Star Wars show from Jon Favreau, a rumoured Marvel live-action series, and a High School Musical series.
