Those who are yet to be won over by Disney Plus are set to be convinced it’s worth the expenditure thanks to Star.

Later this month, the streaming service will double the amount of films and TV shows that are currently available to watch on the streaming service.

On 23 February, the new titles will automatically be added via the new channel meaning users will have access to 276 more films as well as a host of popular TV shows from the past few decades.

As these all come from FX, 20th Century Studios and 20th Television, Disney+ will suddenly become more appealing for the non-House of Mouse fans out there.

The new additions will also coincide with the release of a selection of brand new high-profile TV shows, more details on which you can find below.

‘Big Sky’ is just one of several new shows set to launch on Star (Star)

The only downside is that users in the UK, Australia and other territories will have to pay a little bit extra to keep their subscription.

Find all the information on Star and how it will affect Disney+ below – as well as the full list of every new title coming later this month.

What is Star on Disney Plus?

In the words of the studio itself, Star on Disney+ is a “new general entertainment brand” that’s set to capitalise on the studio’s acquisition of Fox in 2019. Users will be able to find Star after selecting their Disney+ app – it could be described as a channel within a channel that’ll fit alongside the individual Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and National Geographic sections currently on there.

Star is the result of Disney wanting to share the love. Following the acquisition of Fox, the studio gained a whole bunch of titles that would be out of place alongside the kid friendly titles currently available to stream. Star is essentially Disney+ for the adults.

Star will be available to stream in “select international markets” from 23 February. This includes Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The majority of the titles that will be on Star are already available in the US on Hulu.

How much is Disney Plus and do you have to pay extra for Star?

Like with all good things, there is a down side – and in Star’s case, it’s a price increase for Disney+. It’s currently £5.99 for the monthly subscription; this will rise to £7.99. Alternatively, it’s currently £59.99 for a yearly subscription, which will increase to £79.90 on 23 February.

If you already have a subscription, these prices will remain the same until 23 August when the increases will take effect. If your subscription is set for renewal between these dates, Disney has assured customers that they’ll be charged at the lower price.

List of new films and TV shows being added on Star

Star will be the exclusive home of US shows including Lost, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Desperate Housewives, 24, Atlanta and Ugly Betty. Among its films will be Broadcast News, The Favourite, The Devil Wears Prada and The Banger Sisters. Find a full list of every other movie and TV show joining Star here.

What are the new TV shows coming to Star?

Alongside the huge list of older films and TV shows set to join the service, Star will be home to brand new original titles. On the day it arrives, viewers will exclusively be able to watch the following: mystery drama Big Sky, teen series Love, Victor, crime drama Godfather of Harlem and animated sci-fi sitcom called Solar Opposites.

Subscribers have been particularly excited to learn ‘Ugly Betty’ is being added to Star (ABC)

Cancelled Hulu shows Helstrom and High Fidelity will also be available to stream via Star.
