The Crown star Tobias Menzies accidentally reveals season 3 release date

One of the stars of The Crown may have just accidentally revealed the Netflix series’ return date.

Tobias Menzies, who has replaced Matt Smith as Prince Phillip, was speaking on Jo Good’s BBC radio show when he let slip when fans can expect new episodes.

“We shot season three and that starts in November,” he told the radio host.

Menzies also revealed that he spoke with Smith on the phone a few times before filming began.

Joining Menzies for season three are Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter, Josh O’Connor, Jason Watkins, and Erin Doherty who’ll play Princess Anne.

Showrunner Peter Morgan has previously spoken about the recasting, saying that new actors will be brought on every two seasons

“You can’t ask someone to act middle-aged,” he said. “Someone has to bring their own fatigue to it. The feelings we all have as 50-year-olds are different than the feelings we all have as 30-year-olds.”

The Crown returns to Netflix later this year – most probably November. You can find a compilation of everything we know about the new season here.
