David Beckham is to star in a new children’s breakfast show aimed at encouraging more young people to play sport.

The newly retired footballer will front a series of ‘master classes’ for the Sky Sports show Game Changers, which will be hosted by Olympic gold medallist Darren Campbell and presenter Di Dougherty.

Beckham said: “It’s an ambition of mine to inspire more young people to take part in sport. I’m excited to be one of a great group of athletes contributing to Game Changers and working with Sky.”

The show will also feature Olympic gold medallist Jessica Ennis-Hill and Paralympic wheelchair rugby captain Steve Brown as news reporters.

Game Changers will air every Saturday morning from 9am, broadcast live with a studio audience. The first episode will start with a live skills session from inline skating world champion Jenna Downing, who like Beckham and Ennis-Hill, is a Sky Sporty Living For Sport mentor.

Barney Francis, Sky Sports managing director, said: “We love sport and believe in its power to inspire young people to get active, have fun and learn new skills. Game Changers is the first show of its kind and a brilliant addition to the Sky Sports schedule.”

The first episode of Game Changers will air on 17 August, and will be free to all homes in Britain as part of Sky’s free day to start the Premier League season.
