The Walking Dead season 8 episode 13 'Do Not Lead Us Astray': Will Tara die? The infected arrow moment explained

The latest episode of The Walking Dead season 8 saw one of the series' most riveting showdowns to date as The Saviours - led by Simon (Steven Ogg) - faced our heroes at the Hilltop, led by the widow herself, Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan).

What our favourite characters didn't know of, however, was Negan's - well, Eugene's - plan of dousing arrows and bullets in walker guts, something which culminated in the loss of several lives as several people began to reanimate to the confusion of everyone around them.

One character whose wounds are yet to take hold is Tara (Alanna Masterson) who got hit by an arrow fired by her nemesis, Dwight (Austin Amelio). With everyone convinced that Tara will be the latest character to bite it, it seems likely that she will live to fight another day. How? Let's look at the facts.

A few weeks back, Tara witnessed Dwight save her people from being found by The Saviours with her own eyes and, as a result, she's now convinced - weeks after wanting him dead for killing her girlfriend - that he's an ally. Jump forward to this episode: Simon was about to kill Tara with what was certainly an infected arrow, but Dwight instead fires his, taking her down and seemingly infecting her.

If what Tara says is true and Dwight is still working for Rick and company (which we almost certainly know he is), then it's likely that Dwight failed to douse his arrow in walker guts meaning Tara will be fine. Evidence to this can be found in Robert Kirkman's comic book series: a huge moment sees Dwight stab Rick with a seemingly-infected arrow - only for it to be later revealed that he didn't infect his and stabbed Rick in the ultimate hope of saving him.

Of course, every single character remains convinced he's still working for Negan and bays for is blood making poor Dwight the most misunderstood character on this show. While this points to the fact that Tara (who is finally remembering her troubled past) will likely be fine, it does mean that the series has obviously strayed from the source material and we won't get to see such an epic moment translated on screen.

This is good news for Dwight fans, however, as the moment Tara doesn't become a zombie, she'll be walking proof that Dwight is actually a good guy after all. We hope.
