University Challenge contestant in Iceland flies into ‘unnerving’ rage after losing show
Heated scenes show him pushing his podium and smashing his glass
The Icelandic version of University Challenge got extremely heated after a contestant flew into a rage and pushed over his podium.
Iceland’s version of the popular quiz show, titled Gettu betr, also saw the male contestant throw a glass at the wall, which smashed.
As he stormed off, host Kristjana Arnarsdóttir – who was visibly shocked and unsure what to do – tried to keep things going.
However, the contestant wasn’t done – as Arnarsdóttir spoke, the unseen male could be heard throwing things behind-the-scenes.
According to Twitter user @viktor888, the contestant got angry after the opposing team won the show having buzzed in “a millisecond or so” before his team.

In the “unnerving” clip, which was shared on Twitter by BBC News senior journalist Tom Hourigan, someone can be heard saying in Icelandic, “Woah, what’s going on?”
Arnarsdóttir then suggests they go to a break while the contestant calms down.
Gettu betr was first broadcast on RÚV in 1986. University Challenge, upon which its format is based, began in 1962.
