GTA V Second Trailer

It’s now been almost eight years since the original release of Grand Theft Auto V, and there’s still no word on a sequel.

Developer Rockstar Games has kept quiet about the existence of a sixth main GTA game, though it is widely expected that the game is already in development.

While there has been no confirmation about the game or its content, a number of rumours and leaks have circulated about the potential setting.

With GTA V having revisited the titular West Coast city from 2004’s Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, many have speculated that GTA 6 could revisit the location from 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, which was modelled on Miami.

Another popular rumour posits that the game will adopt an approach referred to as “Project Americas”, and allow players to travel between multiple cities featured in previous GTA games (these being: GTA IV’s New York-esque Liberty City, San Andreas, and Vice City).

Recently, some GTA fans noticed an update was made to a currently defunct website owned by Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company.

According to Twitter user “GTA 6 News”, the website Rockstarcartel, set up by Take-Two around the time of Vice City’s release, was one of those which was recently updated.

Fans have interpreted the update as further evidence that GTA 6 is indeed in development, and that the game will tie back into Vice City’s setting.

However, while a newly upgraded version of GTA V will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles later this year, it is likely to be some time before GTA 6 will hit shelves. Previous rumours had suggested the game could be ready by 2023, but the effects of the coronavirus pandemic are likely to have caused substantial delays, as has been the case throughout the video game industry.
