Brad Pitt admits he hasn’t cried in 20 years but is becoming ‘more moved’ with age

Actor says he is ‘quite famously a not-crier’

Brad Pitt has revealed that the hasn’t cried in almost 20 years.

In an interview with his former Legends of the Fall co-star Anthony Hopkins for Interview magazine, the 55-year-old opened up about how he is reconnecting with his emotions as he gets older.

When asked by Hopkins if he cries often, Pitt replied: “I am quite famously a not-crier. Is that a term? I hadn’t cried in, like, 20 years.”

The Ad Astra actor went on to explain that, as he ages, he is finding himself much more emotionally impacted by life.

“Now I find myself, at this latter stage, much more moved – moved by my kids, moved by friends, moved by the news. Just moved.”

Pitt has six children with ex-wife Angelina Jolie including Maddox, 18, Pax, 16, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 11. The couple separated in 2016 after two years of marriage.

Pitt added that he thinks being able to reconnect with his emotions can only be a good thing, saying: “I don’t know where it’s going, but I think it’s a good sign.”

Following the admission, Hopkins comforted Pitt by stating that he can expect to experience more emotional moments over time.

The 81-year-old, who revealed that he cries “at the drop of a hat”, said: ”You’ll find, as you get older, that you just want to weep.

“It’s not even about grief. It’s about the glory of life.“

Later on in the interview, Pitt also divulged to Hopkins that he is “still wrestling” with “blame” although he did not specify what it was towards.

“I’m realising, as a real act of forgiveness for myself for all the choices that I’ve made that I’m not proud of, that I value those missteps because they led to some wisdom, which led to something else,” Pitt said.

“You can’t have one without the other. I see it as something I’m just now getting my arms around at this time in my life. But I certainly don’t feel like I can take credit for any of it.”

He added: “We’ve always placed great importance on the mistake. But the next move, what you do after the mistake, is what really defines a person.”

Earlier this year, the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star opened up about going sober following his highly-publicised divorce from Jolie.

In an interview with The New York Times, Pitt explained his reasoning behind his decision to stop drinking, saying: “I had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privileges.”

Pitt added that he also attended Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for a year and a half following the breakdown of his marriage and expressed his admiration for the men with whom he attended the meetings.

“You had all these men sitting around being open and honest in a way I have never heard,” the actor remarked.

“It was this safe space where there was little judgement, and therefore little judgement of yourself.”
