André Leon Talley is a well-known fan of UGGs, having once called the comfy boots “as chic as heels”.

Now he’s the new face of the Australian fashion brand, starring in their latest campaign which sees him posing in UGG’s signature slippers on the porch of his house in White Plains, New York.

The 72-year-old – who was the first black creative director for Vogue, as well as the magazine’s editor-at-large – said: “I thought at first UGG had a connotation of being tacky. People said, ‘Oh, I would never be caught wearing an UGG.’

“I said it for a very long time too, and then I found an UGG and put it on. It’s extraordinary and it’s a confidence boost… I have no shame.”

Talley - who is known for his love of over-sized kaftans - went on to say that he has "wardrobe upon wardrobe" of the "wonderful shoe" as well as opening up about how challenging he’s found self-isolating during the coronavirus pandemic.

"It’s very difficult. One has to maintain an emotional and psychological wall in order not to crack under pressure. The most important thing is that I love being alone and being by myself – I love books, I love to read, so I try to always have a book in my hand at some point in the day – but I’m very aware that the world has changed.

“The world changed with the election; the world changed with Covid; the world changed with Black Lives Matter. So, 2020 has been a very heavy year. It’s been stressful, very stressful,” he added.

The news follows not long after Telfar Clemens partnered up with UGG for a shearling version of its legendary shopping bag.

In recent years, the brand has also joined forces with Y/Project on a thigh-high version of its classic boots – as worn by Rihanna – and Eckhaus Latta on a capsule line of clogs and mules.

While Emily Ratajkowski, Kendall Jenner and Irina Shayk have been spotted sporting their own pairs of mini-UGGs during lockdown.
