D-Day veteran's story of late wife on Good Morning Britain

Good Morning Britain viewers were moved on Tuesday as an elderly man broke down during a live interview about his late wife.

Ken Bembow, 94, went viral earlier this week when a video shared online showed his care home worker, Kia Tobin, handing him a pillow with his late wife Aida’s picture on it.

Ms Tobin gave Mr Bembow the pillow after she realised he had been sleeping with a glass-framed picture of Aida under his pillow.

After the video was shared widely online, the pair were invited onto GMB to discuss Ms Tobin’s kind gesture.

Mr Bembow became emotional as he talked about his late wife, describing her as “the most loving, caring, beautiful wife you could wish for”.

Describing the moment she gave Mr Bembow the pillow, a visibily emotional Ms Tobin said: “It was so touching, it was lovely, the most precious thing that anyone could ever wish for.”

Susanna Reid, GMB co-host, said she was moved by the story, admitting that she cried “at least three times” during their off-camera chat.

Emotional viewers of the prime time breakfast show took to social media to discuss the interview, with many saying they had been brought to tears.

“Ken has just got me right in the feels. Every time I managed to stop crying he made me cry again. What a wonderful man. #GMB” one viewer wrote.

Another wrote: “Wow. I don’t mind admitting that I have tears in my eyes watching @GMB such a thoughtful person Kia Tobin is. Ken has me in tears. True love. #gmb”

A third added: “I don’t want Ken to go! Keep him on, I so want to hear more... I have stocked up on tissues because the tears are flowing #GMB”.

Ms Reid and her co-host Piers Morgan praised 17-year-old Ms Tobin for her kind gesture.

“It was amazing, it was so rewarding – it doesn’t cost a lot and it made him so happy,” said Ms Tobin.

“Something so small made him so happy, all the girls were crying – everyone in the room.”
