Love Island 2019: two new islanders Chris and Francesca enter the villa

Love Island fans have praised contestant Francesca Allen for not concealing her acne scars under makeup on the show.

During Wednesday evening’s episode of the ITV2 reality dating programme, viewers saw newcomer Francesca take Ovie Soko and Curtis Pritchard on dates during her first full day in the villa.

First thing in the morning, the 23-year-old had sat with fellow newbie Chris Taylor in the kitchen, going completely make-up-free as the pair discussed their romantic prospects.

Several Love Island viewers have commended the clothing store manager for not being ashamed of her acne scars, with some describing seeing someone with the skin condition on the show as “refreshing”.

“As someone who has the worst struggle with my skin and lets it get me down so much it’s so f***ing refreshing to see an amazingly beautiful girl like Francesca show off her bare face and acne to the world without shame. Just made me feel all warm inside,” one person tweeted.

“Love seeing Francesca comfortable in her skin! So refreshing to see!” someone else wrote.

Another Twitter user explained that as someone who gets upset about their skin “almost daily”, it’s “so amazing to see a girl with acne scars embracing it”.

Acne is a common skin condition, affecting around 80 per cent of people aged between 11 and 30, the NHS states.

Approximately five per cent of women and one per cent of men experience acne over the age of 25.

In May, Rihanna's Fenty fashion label was applauded by fans for featuring a model on the website whose acne scars were not retouched.

The model in question, Aweng Chuol, was pictured wearing a pair of roped ear cuffs from the brand's jewellery range, with acne scars visible on her left cheek.

"I love that the images used on Fenty are not retouched, and that the model's skin is not perfect by societal standards," one person tweeted.

Another talking point from Wednesday night’s episode of Love Island was Ovie’s on-trend fashion sense, with numerous viewers praising the basketball player for his unique style.

Ever since joining the show more than a week ago, the 28-year-old has been spotted wearing a variety of colourful shirts, and accessorising with a range of stylish glasses and bold headwear.

“Ovie deserves to win the whole thing just because of his fashion sense,” one fan wrote in a tweet which has garnered more than 500 likes.
