Former Love Island star Michael Griffiths advises against getting into a relationship on the show

Love Island star Michael Griffiths has advised against getting into a relationship on the ITV2 reality show because “you don’t really know if you’re going to work on the outside”.

During an appearance on Lorraine on Wednesday, the 27-year-old explained how he discussed the matter with fellow contestants Jordan Hames and Anton Danyluk and both agreed that “it’s not really the best idea”.

But, as Griffiths pointed out, Hames went against this by asking his partner, Anna Vakili, to be his girlfriend in Sunday night’s episode.

Two days later, Hames expressed an interest in another Islander, India Reynolds, prompting Vakili to reprimand him in Tuesday night’s episode.

“What kind of guy asks a girl to be their girlfriend and two days later they crack on with another f****** girl?” the 28-year-old pharmacist said.

When asked to comment on the incident, Griffiths said Hames has “had a bit of a head loss” and “stumbled at the first step”.

The former Islander went on to explain that had he still been in the villa – Griffiths was voted out on Sunday – he would’ve encouraged Hames not to pursue Reynolds.

Griffiths also opened up about his relationship with contestant Joanna Chimonides, with whom he coupled up after spending several weeks with another Islander, Amber Gill.

“I’ve only seen her on Aftersun so am looking to have a nice little sit-down conversation with her when we can,” he said.

Griffiths and Chimonides did not part ways on good terms; following Chimonides’ departure from the programme, Griffiths expressed an interest in Gill again. But Griffiths said he is keen to clear the air.

“I just really want to sit down and speak to [Joanna] about everything,” he said. “Right now she’s not really got any kind of clarity, she’s seen what she’s seen on TV but I want to expand on it.”
