Stuck what to get your significant other for Valentine’s Day?

Never fear, Goop, the brainchild of Gwyneth Paltrow and source of continual bemusement and intrigue, has published its suggested gift guide for Valentine’s Day.

The website, which recently came under fire from a gynaecologist over an article about putting stones in the vagina, categorised their recommendations into ‘for him, for her, for couples or for singles’ sections. Under this, there are some options you would expect for example lacy lingerie, gold jewellery and body oils but then there are some which if received would probably come as quite a surprise and possibly leave you wishing your other half had just got you a box of chocolates instead.

On the ‘for couples’ list is a torch, not just any torch but a Prada torch, complete with its own bag which they suggest for “a fun game of hide and seek” priced at $260 (£210).Then there is some ‘sex dust’ sachets which apparently are edible formula you dissolve into either a hot or cold drink and is “alchemised to ignite and excite sexy energy in and out of the bedroom” – Goop suggests it tastes especially good in ‘nut milk’.

Amongst the various massage oils and sex toys, there is ‘love potion’, some vegan, fair trade condoms, a one-day orgasmic meditation class, an oyster plate for $112 (£89) and a $370 (£295) gold-plated necklace in the shape of a bottom.

Other outrageously-priced present suggestions include a stay in the French Polynesia for $2,583 per day (£2,060). Of course, this is the website that once included a 24-carat gold vibrator for $15,000 (£10,000) under its list of ‘Not so basic sex toys’, so perhaps it is no surprise.
