Marc Jacobs shares bandaged photo of himself after facelift: ‘F*** gravity’
Designer previously said: ‘Whatever makes me feel good, I want more of’
Marc Jacobs has shared a candid photo of himself in the hospital and covered in bandages after undergoing a facelift.
The fashion designer revealed the immediate aftermath of the plastic surgery procedure on Wednesday, with the photo showing him dressed in black-and-white checked pajamas with his entire head wrapped in gauze and attached to drains to remove excess blood.
The 58-year-old can also be seen wearing a mask in the photo, which he captioned: “Yesterday. #f***gravity #livelovelift,” and tagged the doctor who performed the surgery, facial plastic surgeon Dr Andrew Jacono.
The post prompted many of Jacobs’ followers to share their well-wishes for a quick recovery, while others also praised him for the transparency.
“The transparency is everything! Snatch it darlinggggg! Happy healing,” creative director and stylist June Ambrose commented.
Another person wrote: “Sending love and a speedy recovery,” while someone else applauded the designer’s choice of doctors, writing: “He’s a great doctor, great choice! Can’t wait to see your gorgeous face.”
Jacobs’ decision to undergo the plastic surgery procedure, which typically has a recovery of two weeks, comes after he previously revealed while speaking with Calvin Klein for an 2010 interview in Harper’s Bazaar that he started focusing on his health and appearance after he was told by a doctor that he would have to have his colon removed as a result of his diet of “junk food”.
“I had 21 per cent body fat four years ago. I was in and out of the hospital because I had flare-ups of ulcerative colitis. I’d be in the office for 16 hours a day, six of which were in the bathroom because I was so ill. I ate nothing but junk food. Basically, the doctor said: ‘We’re going to have to remove your colon.’ And I said: ‘I’m not doing that!’”Jacobs said.
According to the designer, at that point, he sought the advice of a nutritionist, who promised that if he followed their guidance, he would not have to have his colon removed.
In addition to a strict diet, the nutritionist also stressed the importance of exercise and rest, with the designer explaining: “ So I started, and like everything - I say this, and I hope it’s not misinterpreted, but I like what makes me feel better. That probably doesn’t come as a shock.”
The improvement to his health inspired Jacobs to change his outward appearance as well, as he told Klein: “Everything changed. I cut my hair, I got contact lenses, I started to groom and get manicures and pedicures. I started to get my hair cut every two weeks.
“Before, I never took care of my appearance. I was like: ‘Who cares? I’m in the studio 16 hours a day, and nobody sees me.’ Everything, it all sort of changed. My home life changed. I wanted to have people over for dinner. I cared about interiors because I wanted to have guests over all the time.”
The 58-year-old also previously told GQ in 2008 that he would be open to plastic surgery, after being impressed by Tom Ford’s appearance.
“I look at Tom [Ford] and he looks great. Whatever he’s doing works for him. And I don’t know if he does anything, but I’m not opposed,” he said, adding: “Whatever makes me feel good, I want more of.”
