The Archbishop of Canterbury has lauded the Duchess of Sussex as “a remarkable person”, describing being a part of the royal family as “a life sentence”.
The senior bishop of the Church of England made his comments while speaking with broadcaster Emma Barnett on the BBC Radio 5 show Emma Barnett Gets Answers .
While speaking about topics including UK politics , mental health and life in the public eye, the archbishop expressed his admiration for the royal family, saying that they exhibit a “sheer sense of duty and commitment”.
“It is genuinely a life sentence without any let-up,” he said. “I’m so admiring of the way they behave. It’s remarkable”.
Barnett then asked the Archbishop of Canterbury to shed light on his views regarding the Duchess of Sussex, stating: “There has been concern that some of Meghan ‘s treatment has been of a racist flavour, are you concerned about that?”

The archbishop, who presided over Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018, said that he feels “immensely concerned about all racist behaviour”.
He added that “particularly when it’s someone you know”, it is especially apparent that the treatment is “totally undeserved”.
The religious leader applauded Meghan’s character, commending the way in which the duchess has carried out her role since becoming a member of the royal family.
“She’s a person of profound humanity and deep concern for people, seeking to carry out her role as with every ounce of her being and I think that she’s a remarkable person,” he stated.
To celebrate the second anniversary of their engagement announcement, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a never-before-seen photograph on Instagram from their wedding.
The image, captured by photographer Alexi Lubomirski , shows the couple standing with their arms around one another, Prince Harry looking into the distance as Meghan crouches slightly, smiling and holding her bridal bouquet.
