YouTuber NikkieTutorials tells fans she is 'OK' after being robbed at gunpoint at Netherlands home

‘Having one of those worst nightmares come true is very surreal,’ says make-up artist

YouTuber NikkieTutorials has given fans an update after she was robbed at gunpoint at her Netherlands home.

On 8 August, the make-up guru – real name Nikkie de Jager – confirmed reports that she had been burgled while at home with her boyfriend Dylan Drossaers.

“Earlier today one of my biggest nightmares became reality when we got robbed under gunpoint at our own home,” she wrote on Twitter.

“Dylan and myself got attacked but physically we are okay. Mentally it’s a whole other story.”

Dutch police also confirmed the news in a tweet, writing: “Just reported a robbery on a house in #Uden. The perpetrators threatened the residents with possibly a firearm and took an unknown loot from them.

“There are at least 3 perpetrators who fled in a beige passenger car towards the A50. One of the residents suffered superficial injuries.”

Now, de Jager has uploaded a new video to her channel, updating her fans on how she is coping after the attack.

As the video began, the YouTuber described 2020 as “a ride” before becoming visibly upset and telling Drossaers, who sat off camera, that she did not want to cry.

“It’s totally fine. Whatever happens, happens,” he comforted her. “Let those emotions free and start again when you feel ready. Just take it easy.”

After De Jager regained composure, she described the attack as one of her “worst nightmares”.

“We were robbed at gunpoint at our own home,” she explained. “Even though I can’t tell you too much because there’s still a very ongoing investigation, I do want to let you know that I’m okay. Having one of those worst nightmares come true is very surreal but it also puts a lot of things into perspective.”

De Jager continued: “Now more than ever, you realise that family is everything and being in good health is even more important. Maybe one day, I’ll be able to tell you everything but right now, it’s impossible, for my mental state but also the law because we’re trying everything to make this right.”

The YouTube star went on to thank her followers for their support during “dark days”.

“I can’t thank you enough for the messages I’ve seen on Twitter, on Instagram, everywhere,” she said. “Knowing there’s such a huge group of people out there who are rooting for us, who are loving us, who are wishing us nothing but the best, thank you. Honestly, thank you.”

Earlier this year, De Jager, who has more than 13 million subscribers on YouTube, came out as transgender after claiming someone was trying to publicly out her.

She told her followers in a coming out video: “I want to start the year off by finally revealing a part of my life that has made me who I am.

“I can’t believe I am saying this today, to all of you, but damn it feels good to finally say it.”

De Jager later appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where she spoke at greater length about the circumstances that led to her coming out.

She explained that she received messages from a “certain person” who wished to “expose” her identity.

“He had a very pressuring tone of voice, and he was like, ‘If I don’t get an answer by tomorrow, it’s out’,” she explained, adding that she believed the blackmailer’s “entire goal” was to “destroy” her life.

“Plot twist, that didn’t happen!” de Jager said.
