Sarah Hyland is receiving support from fans after facing backlash for posting a photo of fiancé Wells Adams grabbing her chest from behind.

On Monday, the Modern Family star shared a photo of herself and Adams posing with friends at a wedding.

In the photo, Adams is standing behind Hyland and grabbing her breasts while she makes a funny face. The pose was mimicked by another couple in the photograph as well.

Hyland captioned the photo: “We take wedding photo booths very seriously... #mcm to the men who love and treat their ladies like queens.”

However, some followers of the actress did not find the picture amusing, and instead called out Hyland for contributing to gender imbalances.

“In times of gender balance and women’s rights and respect, we still see pics like this… we are not moving forward with such mentalities,” one person wrote.

“Like queens = like objects?” another commented. “The dissolution of patriarchal gender relations can’t come soon enough.”

The photo also prompted one of Hyland’s followers to accuse her of “hypocrisy” because the star has previously opened up about being sexually assaulted and the importance of the MeToo movement.

In response to the criticism, many of Hyland’s fans have come to the defence of the actress and Adams.

“This is truly funny and sweet, there is nothing wrong with your significant other loving your body and being playful. Y’all are relationship goals,” one person wrote.

Another said the outrage is a “setting the MeToo movement backwards”.

“You’re setting the MeToo movement backwards in your condemnation of what is clearly playful silliness among friends and significant others,” they commented.

In 2018, Hyland shared her story of sexual assault on Twitter in support of Christine Blasey Ford.

The actress included the hashtags #WeBelieveChristine, #MeToo and #BelieveWomen.
