YouTuber Tana Mongeau is facing backlash from her fans after sharing a heavily edited photo of herself.

On Sunday, Mongeau walked the red carpet at the People’s Choice Awards, where she was nominated for Social Star of 2019, in a red dress and matching lipstick.

Following the event, the 21-year-old shared Getty Images of herself from the night to Instagram. However, shortly after uploading the photos, Mongeau’s version of the photograph was shared on Reddit’s InstagramReality subreddit alongside the actual photograph, where people pointed out the numerous edits she’d made.

When comparing the photos, either as a GIF or side-by-side, Mongeau seems to have changed the shape of her face by narrowing down her jawline and increasing the size of her dress strap.

The YouTuber also appears to have slimmed down her nose, thinned out her arm, altered the saturation and colours of the photo, and changed the shape and darkness of her eyebrows.

The result, according to people on Reddit, makes Mongeau “unrecognisable”.

“I didn’t even recognise her,” one person wrote.

Another said: “If I didn’t have the side-by-side I wouldn’t have even known the left picture was her.”

Others said the edits made them “sad,” as they reflect society’s unattainable beauty standards.

“She’s gorgeous! The fact that she feels the need to edit her photos just makes me sad,” someone wrote. “I’d be very happy if I looked like the original. I hate that we live in a society where gorgeous still isn’t gorgeous enough.”

Mongeau has previously been outspoken regarding her reliance on Facetune for editing photos of herself.

In addition to explaining that she only reposts “Facetuned pics,” the social media star said in 2018: “People keep asking, so, my skin care routine!! It’s Facetune. That’s it. That’s my skincare routine.”
