Mueller says policy protected Trump from indictment but hints at impeachment in resignation statement

Cher is facing criticism on Twitter after she saying she wants to see the US president sexually assaulted in prison if he is impeached.

On Thursday, the singer tweeted that she would like to see President Donald Trump locked up in prison and made a “Toy Boy of Big Bubba”, using a slang term referring to an incarcerated man.

In the tweet, which has since been deleted, the 73-year-old star wrote: “Been Giving IMPEACHMENT MUCH Thought Throughout The Day,& I Would *love* 2 See trump Impeached,Brought 2 Trial, *locked* Up In *prison* & Toy Boy Big Bubba!! My Delight In Seeing trump Run Out Of Town On a Rail, Is More Likely *heart* over *brain*. I WANT WHAT'S BEST 4 DEMOCRATS AND DEMOCRACY.[sic]”

Hours later, Cher explained that she had deleted her original post referring to the sexual assault, describing it as a “stupid joke” that “went too far”.

The Woman's World singertweeted: “This is Not Apology,It's a Cher 'wtf Moment'.Dont Usually Delete My Twts,But Sometimes I Need 2 Check Myself.What I Thought Of As Stupid Joke'On Paper',Went 2 Far.Think trump Belongs In Jail,but Big Bubba Joke Was Wrong.If I Twt,I Have a Responsibility. THERES IS A LINE NOT 2 *cross*.[sic]”

The Oscar-winner’s tweets have caused controversy on social media, with several users condemning the singer for joking about sexual assault.

"Just not Clever! Bad taste joke. Cher should apologise to Trump personally [sic]," one Twitter user commented.

"I hate Trump too but come on girl, you know better than that!! As far as jokes go, that was the unfunniest joke ever!!!,[sic]” wrote one user.

Piers Morgan, a Good Morning Britain co-host, also commented on the singer's comment, calling the tweet “disgusting”.

“BREAKING: Cher says she wants President Trump to be raped in prison as 'Toy boy of Big Bubba,” he tweeted. “Disgusting, and if she'd said it about Obama she would never work again.”

The comments came amid a slew of critical comments about the president by Cher on Twitter calling for his impeachment. The statements followed Special Counsel Robert Mueller's announcement that it was “not an option” for his office to charge a sitting president.

Reiterating on Wednesday the conclusions of his 448-page report into Russian election interference, the former special counsel declined to exonerate Mr Trump, saying he “would have said so” if his team “had confidence the president clearly did not commit a crime”.

In one tweet, Cher described the president as a “liar”, a “racist”, and a “dictator” who will “do anything to win”. The singer also accused the former entrepreneur of stealing money from the poor.

Earlier this year, Cher spoke out about the controversy surrounding former Vice President Joe Biden, discussing her experience of being hugged by him.

In recent months, Biden has faced several allegations that he has made women uncomfortable with his use of physical contact in the past.

In April, Cher tweeted that she once spent time talking with Biden in his office, with former politician concluding their encounter with a hug.

“I was fine with it, but that was my experience,” she tweeted.

“He must commit to be aware and care about women’s space.”

Last month, Trump said he agreed with Cher’s comments questioning the ability of Los Angeles, Californian to care for its homeless population, regardless of a possible increase in undocumented migrants.

“I Understand Helping struggling Immigrants, but MY CITY (Los Angeles) ISNT TAKING CARE OF ITS OWN,” Cher wrote on Twitter.

“WHAT ABOUT THE 50,000+ Citizens WHO LIVE ON THE STREETS.PPL WHO LIVE BELOW POVERTY LINE,& HUNGRY? If My State Can’t Take Care of Its Own(Many Are VETS)How Can it Take Care Of More.”

Trump later tweeted the singer’s tweet adding the comment: “I finally agree with @Cher!”

Cher later rejected the president’s praise, dubbing him a “ignorant thug” on Twitter.
