Royal Mail confirms Greene will be CEO
The postal operator Royal Mail yesterday confirmed it had hired Moya Greene, the head of Canada Post, as its first female chief executive. Ms Greene will take up the role at the beginning of July, and replaces Adam Crozier, who jumped ship to become the chief executive of ITV before Easter.
Donald Brydon, the Royal Mail's chairman, said Ms Greene would bring "energy, clear thinking and a proven leadership track record" to the post. The hiring comes at a testing time for Royal Mail as the new Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government this week confirmed plans to push ahead with a part-privatisation.
Yesterday, Vince Cable, the Business Secretary, welcomed the appointment. "Britain has too few women at the top of companies and our boardrooms will benefit from a better gender mix in senior positions."
