Adam Crozier, who was appointed ITV's chief executive in April, was paid £2.42m in his final year at Royal Mail, the postal service's annual report revealed yesterday. Mr Crozier pocketed a bonus of £1.5m after hitting performance targets over three years, plus a salary of £633,000, a cash payment of £206,000 in lieu of a pension, and benefits worth £19,000.

Dave Ward, the deputy general secretary of the Communication Workers' Union, said: "Postal workers will be outraged by news of Crozier's salary and bonus – it came after a year in which he oversaw a national postal strike, lost the confidence of his workforce and then left before the job of modernisation and business transformation was complete."
