Fatboy Slim wins video awards

THE CHART-TOPPING dance music star Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook, won three prizes at the MTV awards in the Metropolitan Opera House, New York.

His video for "Praise You" won two production awards, including best direction, and was deemed best break-through video. While he was feted, his wife, Zoe Ball, stayed in London after announcing she was to take a break from her career to start a family.

Her husband's prize-winning performance was eclipsed only by Lauryn Hill, whose video for "Doo Wop (That Thing)" earned four awards.

Ricky Martin's video for "Livin' La Vida Loca" and Korn's "Freak on a Leash" video each won two awards, and Madonna picked up an award for her comic dance in the Austin Powers theme tune, "Beautiful Stranger".

The ceremony was hosted by the US comic Chris Rock.The 13-year-old British singer Charlotte Church, dubbed Opera Spice, helped to present the awards, with Sir Paul McCartney and David Bowie.
