If you thought Etam was a shop for teenagers you would have been right - three months ago, that is. The nationwide store has broadened its appeal and introduced a range called The Collection, as modelled by Patsy Kensit in the glossies. It aims to re-interpret the important catwalk looks of the season in a wearable, commercial and, most importantly, affordable way. The outfit on the right costs a mere pounds 70, and is the perfect foil to a hard day at the office.

Not only is the black split mini-skirt a key look of the season (well, one of them anyway), the addition of the sheer lacy top makes the outfit positively smoulder with sex appeal. The good news about this look is that although you may not want to wear it to work in all its glory, it can be adapted for both work and play. Add a pair of black tights, and the skirt becomes decent; a pretty cardigan in lilac, slate grey or powder blue can be worn over the lace top, as can a dark-coloured shirt. So nobody will know the sexy secret beneath the sophisticated exterior if you don't want them to. Etam also has a range of tailored jackets in various shapes and matching fabrics that can make it all look even more respectable.

Come the end of the day, like Miss Jones, you can transform yourself from an office angel to a fashion vamp. Just don't forget the spike heels.
