Former England cricketer and Strictly Come Dancing champ Darren Gough has bowled over his fans to achieve record radio listening figures of more than one million for TalkSport's drivetime show.

Gough, who joined the station in January, began presenting Bowtime alongside Adrian Durham in August.

TalkSport said the drivetime figures are the highest in the station's history.

Gough's arrival has helped the show smash its previous record total of 920,000 drivetime listeners set in the same period last year said the station - which was launched as Talk Radio in 1995.

Gough said: "My first nine months at TalkSport have been unbelievable.

"Being around the station is like being back in the Yorkshire or England dressing room, it's a great laugh and the fun myself and Adrian have in studio makes for an entertaining listen!"

TalkSport said various shows across the schedule had posted record audiences and beaten previous bests.

The station's programme director Moz Dee said: "There have been some great performances from the new talent in our schedule.

"Darren Gough has shown that his talent and popularity transcends his sport and, along with Adrian Durham, has created a must-listen with Bowtime."
