Police have questioned a BBC star over allegations that he recently sexually assaulted a 23-year-old man in a hotel room.

The TV personality, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is thought to be a regular on a popular BBC family show.

According to The Daily Mirror, the unnamed star has denied the allegations of sexual assault.

The individual was due to take part in filming work with the BBC but this was discontinued when the broadcaster became aware of the allegations.

The BBC has confirmed that the man is “not currently taking part in any filming”.

A police spokeswoman from an unidentified force said officers “are investigating the alleged sexual assault of a 23-year-old man”.

This news follows last week’s leaked version of Dame Janet Smith’s report on the BBC’s activities during the Savile years.

Smith is currently in the process of conducting an in-depth enquiry into the BBC’s practices between 1964 and 2007, the years which it employed Savile.

The inquiry is predicted to be highly critical of the BBC for failing to catch Savile during his lifetime.
