Nice jumper Eddie Redmayne: Early photos of the Oscar favourite as a knitwear model surface

Eddie Redmayne might be set for Oscars glory tonight but that hasn’t stopped nerdy snaps of the actor in his early modelling days from surfacing online.

Knitwear brand Rowan Yarns had a rummage and came up with these photographs from a 2004 catalogue in which Redmayne looks distinctly young and wide-eyed.

The 33-year-old (who was 22 when the photos were taken) is tipped to win a best actor Academy Award tonight for his turn as physicist Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

In the photos, published on the Rowan Yarn Facebook page, the actor can be seen in a series of knitted jumpers.

He has since enjoyed a rather more high-profile modelling career starring in campaigns for Burberry alongside Cara Delevigne as well as for Mr Porter (above).

Speaking two years ago about fashion, Redmayne said: “I had never been to a fashion show before going to the Burberry show last month. It was an extraordinary spectacle.”

“I was incredibly green and had no idea what an undertaking it is. I also have a new respect for models because they are so close to the front row and must be so self-conscious.”

The Academy Awards take place tonight in Los Angeles.
